Regional round of the Logical Olympiad 2013 in the South Bohemian Region

Lucie Malechová

The metropolis of South Bohemia was one of the places hosting regional rounds of the Logical Olympiad at the beginning of November. The premises of the Regional Council welcomed 40 students from each age category. Pupils and students from each category were always separately tasked with one written and one projected test. After that, the tests were evaluated and winners announced.

This year, the top prize was a mobile phone. I think that the winners were delighted by it, at least judging by their reactions. The competitors who placed second and third in each category, i.e. at positions where they qualified for the national finals, were however also rewarded – they were rewarded with board games, flash disks, various school supplies, discount vouchers, etc. Besides, all participants received a “little something” to remember this day by.

All prizes were, of course, donated by our sponsors, whom I would like to thank a lot for their gifts, both financial and material, such as the trifles we gave away to the children.

Our thanks belong also to the organizers. This year, there were ten of them, and they were doing great. The evaluation of tests was complete in just a couple of minutes, the points were awarded and summed up, and despite some technical hiccups, we made it all within a very short while. I would therefore also like to thank all of the volunteers who were or were not members of Mensa, and who helped on the day, and/or with the preparations before the event itself. If it hadn’t been for them, the entire event would definitely not have passed off in such a great atmosphere.

Thanks again to all who took part in LO 2013 in the South Bohemian Region. I hope that the next year will be as good as this this one was. And, of course, my thanks go to all organizers of the Logical Olympiad at the national level, as such a competition could not even exist without them.
