EMSC 2024 - European Mensa Science Camp

Summer camp for students of age 12 to 19.

Accommodation and Food

• Hotel Holenský dvůr, near Austrian border
• Original 14th century farmhouse with a magical atmosphere set in beautiful countryside.
• Large conference room
• Swimming pool
• Food: full board including two snacks and drinks all day
• Special dietary requirement +350 CZK (please specify in the registration form)

Programme

• Lectures and workshops focused on science and technology
• Project based learning, teamwork, presentations 
• 3D printers, laptops, measuring instruments, mBot robots, Raspberry Pi with sensors and a lot of other equipment will be available for the project work 
• Solving ciphers during a team game 
• Teambuilding, competitions, board games focused on strategy, reasoning and logic
• One-day trip to Austria

• Early bird price (registration and payment before 31 May) is CZK 7920 (EUR 317), after this date the price will be CZK 425 (EUR 17) higher
• All Mensa members have a discount of CZK 300 (EUR 12) 
• You can choose the room with shared bathroom with discount CZK 700 (EUR 28).
• If you order special dietary (gluten free, lactose free), please pay +CZK 350 (EUR 14)
• Cancelation policy: cancellations made 60 days or more before the event will receive 100% refund, cancellations made 59-30 days before the event will receive 65% refund, cancellations made 29-12 days before the event will receive 30% refund, cancellations made later will not receive any refund

Date and Time

• EMSC begins on Saturday 20 July at 13:00
• Meeting point is Veselí nad Lužnicí train station
• There is a direct train from Prague and from Vienna
• The final presentations will be on Saturday 27 July 
• On Saturday 27 July at 9:30, the participants will present their projects and all parents are welcome to see them. The presentations will finish at 11:10. 

Our Team 

Tomas Blumenstein

• The main co-ordinator, responsible for the programme, lectures, projects and trips
• Tomas has been working with gifted children for many years, he organizes regular seminars focused on science, summer camps, and he also works as an education consultant
• Vice-chairman of Mensa Czechia, a member of IBD of Mensa International

Natalie Kanakova

• Responsible for communication with participants, health and diets
• Responsible for teambuilding, competitions and games
• Natalie studies at the Faculty of Education, Charles University, teaches Maths and Computer Science and loves playing chess – she has achieved the title of Woman International Master

Muhammad Hamza

• Responsible for the programme, projects, lectures and technical support
• Hamza holds a degree in Computer Science, specializing in Embedded Systems; his professional experience includes collaborations with renowned tech companies such as Siemens Industries and he has made significant contributions to the open-source Yocto Project
• Hamza has extensive experience in STEM education, having worked with children and facilitated various activities at Makerspaces

David Splichal

• Responsible for projects, technical support and games
• David likes to play board games, ball dancing and music
