On Monday, 26th of November, the Ball Games Room of Prague Castle hosted 196 finalists of the 5th year of the Logical Olympiad. The competition was traditionally divided into three age categories: A, B, and C. The representatives of all 14 regions registered at the desk, and then headed into the hall, where the competition took place.

Tomáš Blumenstein, the Chairman of Mensa CR, and the actor Jaroslav Dušek were the presenters of the competition. Eight sets of tasks awaited the competitors. The morning was dedicated to logical problems, both in written and screen-projected forms. After lunch, a set of tasks aimed particularly at imagination followed. Thereafter, the competitors faced other tasks – they worked with letters, anagrams, turning and placing shapes in their minds. Even the theme song of Duck Tales played a role in testing the competitors’ short-term memory, such as through the question “What is the colour of swimming trunks that Uncle Scrooge was wearing while swimming in money?”, and others. Of course, presenting partners of the competition was an important part of the competition. The general sponsor of the competition, The Kellner Family Foundation, was introduced by Jitka Tkadlecová, the Open Gate grammar and primary school was introduced by Jiří Luka. The Altel company was represented by Radka Beránková. The invitation was also accepted by the Patron of the competition, Member of Parliament, Petr Tluchoř. During the breaks between individual sets of tasks, actors from The Kampa Theatre entertained the participants; in particular, the youngest competitors were fascinated by their playing of a Tibetan singing bowl. The finals could not have taken place without the hard work of volunteers, headed by Zuzana Poláková. We really appreciate their work, and send many thanks! Without them, we could hardly know the names of the winners of this year’s Logical Olympiad:

  • In Category A, the winner was Jan Brada from the 14th Primary School in Plzeň, Zábělská Street
  • In Category B, the winner was Ondřej Motlíček from Šumperk Grammar School.
  • In Category C, the winner was Jiří Guth from Grammar School Jírovcova in České Budějovice.

All of those who participated in the finals deserve congratulating. The nice memories will lead us on our way towards the next year!
