Regional round of the Logical Olympiad 2014 in the Olomouc Region

The regional round of the Logical Olympiad took place on 7th November, among other regions, also in the Olomouc Region. Everything started at 7AM with the meeting of organizers – volunteers who devoted their own time, and some of them even a day of annual leave. From 9:30AM, participants, almost 150 of them, started to arrive at Národní dům, usually accompanied by parents or teachers. Many of the smaller ones appeared to suffer from stage fright, while the older ones – grammar school students – emanated good moods and composure.

Just before 10AM, a few last competitors had been looking for their spots in the hall, and a few minutes afterwards, Tomáš Blumenstein welcomed Miroslav Pišťák, the Mayor of Prostějov – one of the sponsor cities that provided support to the regional round. After a short welcome speech and good luck wishes, Tomáš Blumenstein declared the competition open, explained the first assignment, and gave the “go ahead”. One hundred and fifty heads then engaged in the thirty minutes of the first part of the test, followed by fun tasks, interactive tasks, and lunch.

After summing up and verification of the results, they were announced – or rather, the five best competitors from each category were named. Those received commemorative certificates and prizes, from puzzles to tablets. One of the tablets was won by Ondřej Motlíček from Šumperk, the winner of two years of the national finals – the year before last in category B, and last year in category C.
