What happened in Children’s Mensa in 2013?

A multitude of activities aimed at our youngest members were organized in 2013. The Logical Olympiad, with more than 41,000 participants was, as usual, the most significant, however all of the small events bringing Mensa’s activities to even the most remote parts of the country can certainly be considered equally important.

In September, the first ever meeting of members and supporters of Children’s Mensa, with almost 70 participants, took place in Sokolov. Besides playing games and other programmes for children, we had the opportunity to listen to interesting lectures given by experts in the field of education and raising gifted children, and in general, to spend a nice weekend together.

Traditionally, we organized a summer camp of the Logical Olympiad, as well as the summer camp, organized in conjunction with the Centre for Talent Development, suburban camps, board games weekends, and many one-day and just afternoon events and Games Days at schools in many regions.

The number of Gifted Children’s Clubs is constantly growing. We have set clear rules for granting the designations “School co-operating with Mensa” and “Kindergarten co-operating with Mensa”. We are constantly developing the NTC Learning System project, and are striving to implement its principles in kindergartens, as well as in primary schools.

In November, a traditional Mensa Conference on Talent Development, with almost 120 participants, took place. The programme was, similarly to in recent years, full of information, experience, and inspiration for working with talented children. The morning session was chaired by PhDr. Jolana Laznibatová, CSc., the founder and director of the Primary School for Exceptionally Gifted Children and Grammar School in Bratislava.

All of the information is presented on the website deti.mensa.cz, where you can find, besides Mensa-organized events, a calendar containing information about conferences, lectures, and other events organized by various subjects, and organizations dealing with the topic of gifted children.
